ADPC inaugurates the Khalifa Port Commencement of Commercial Operations

October 21, 2012
It had been over four years in the making, with the ADPC projects team, Ports team and ADPC senior management joined by the project managers and contractors looking on at the clock as it counts down the final seconds on 1st September, 2012 signaling the commencement of operations at the new Khalifa Ports. It was a proud moment for all those involved to finally see the Khalifa Port come online and bringing with it proof of success for Abu Dhabi and its leadership. This new piece of critical infrastructure is the first semi automated port in the MENA Region with state-of-the-art technology integrated into all its operations.
To mark the occasion, the Khalifa Port received the second largest container ship in the world with a capacity of 14,000 containers and measuring 366 m in length and 51 m in width. The ceremony was also attended by ADPC staff and ADT staff members.
